Full Description:
RARE - Originally built around 1250 AD this property formed part of a chain of defensive communication towers. The house and tower were fully restored in the 1970’s by an architect with specialist knowledge of dealing with historic buildings. The present owners bought the house 18 years ago and have spared no expense to retain the original charm of the property; ensuring the stone, wood and terracotta are displayed to maximum effect.

There are three main elements to the property: the Mas, the Tower and a separate apartment (same age as the Mas) used for guests or staff. The Mas and Tower are joined and together comprise the main accommodation offering 2 living rooms, a music or entertaining space (currently occupied by a grand piano), kitchen, tower room (office, bedroom or library), 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 WC and a number of terraces (almost every room has access to the outside via French doors). The separate apartment comprises a living / dining room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom.

Aside from the obvious appeal and history of this amazing property it is also endowed with the most wonderful gardens and outside space. Almost 3 hectares (7.5 acres) of land planted with a wide variety of flowering species and trees; every spot is lovely in its own right while also possessing the most spectacular views of the countryside or the Mediterranean. Close to the house the gardens are considerately laid out, the space then becomes more open and planted with trees as one moves further away. At the back of the garden is a large workshop and garage (with road access) that would transform well into separate accommodation should it be needed. Here by the workshop there are a series of gravity water tanks (buried) that hold up to 7,000 litres of water taken from a drilled well. This water is then filtered and cleaned before entering the house. To the south-west of the house the land would lend itself well to the keeping of horses however the facilities would have to be built from scratch.

Sitting at 150 metres above sea level, this property is less than 5 minutes drive from the charming seaside town of Banyuls-sur-Mer with its numerous shops, restaurants and bars in addition to beach, marina and train station (direct trains to Perpignan and Spain).

This is a rare and unique property. Offering comfortable and extraordinary accommodation, complemented by fabulous views, this is the epitome of South of France living. Property is sold furnished.
